Dubai charity provides Ramadan feast for construction workers

Construction workers in Dubai queue up to receive an evening meal to break their Ramadan fast.

It comes courtesy of a local charity initiative called Filling the Blues. Running for the last few years, volunteers and local restaurants have come together to provide hundreds of labourers with a fast feast.

“That’s how it works. It’s purely word of mouth and by us talking to people and the guys talked to themselves and they shared the news,” explained volunteer Debbie Rogers.

Volunteers sign up via social media to take part in the distribution.

“I hope there will be more initiatives to reach more people. I don’t have enough words to thank all those involved,” said one construction worker.

The United Arab Emirates’ multi-billion dollar construction industry depends on expatriate labourers who can earn just 140 euros per month.
