WILMINGTON, Del. — A new charity golf tournament named in honor of the late Beau Biden will take place in Wilmington.

The News Journal reports (http://delonline.us/1jTJy2i) the Beau Biden Memorial Invitational is scheduled for Oct. 26 at the Wilmington Country Club. The event is the first to benefit the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children.

The nonprofit organization was created in June by Biden’s widow, Hallie, and the Delaware Community Foundation to carry on the work of the late attorney general. Biden made prosecution of child sexual abuse a cornerstone of his two terms.

The newspaper says almost 50 foursomes are already scheduled to participate on both courses. The nonprofit group has already raised $600,000 without an event.

Beau Biden died on May 30 after a battle with brain cancer.
